The problem
Intervention: Informal music activities participation
Who it was tested with: 79 normally-hearing Finnish children aged 2;0-5;11.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Additionally, parents filled in the 'Role of Music in Families' questionnaire detailing their child's formal and informal music activities." The study measured associations between reported music participation and verbal fluency outcomes in a defined child population, but without experimental design to establish causation.
Cross-sectional design prevents causal inference; parental questionnaire about music activities may not capture all relevant variables; no control group or randomization.
