The problem
Intervention: Comparison of developmental outcomes by nutritional status (stunting, underweight, wasting) and feeding practices
Who it was tested with: 507 mother-child pairs with children aged 12-59 months in Guraghe Zone, Southwest Ethiopia.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"A community-based survey was conducted among 507 randomly selected mother-child pairs... Bivariable and multivariable binary logistic regression (stepwise backward regression) models were fitted." The study measured nutritional status and developmental outcomes simultaneously without establishing temporal sequence or controlling for all confounders, representing observational association rather than experimental evidence.
Cross-sectional design prevents causal inference; cannot determine whether malnutrition causes developmental delay or whether other factors cause both; limited to one geographic zone in Ethiopia.
