The problem
Intervention: Pediatric Malnutrition Screening Algorithm (PMSA-2025): a multidimensional screening tool with six clinical domains (perinatal history, growth trajectory, prior nutritional diagnosis, hospitalization frequency, infection recurrence, feeding behavior) scored on a binary 0-6 scale
Who it was tested with: Children aged 1-10 years with WHZ between -1 and -2 SD in Middle Eastern healthcare settings; tool intended for use by pediatricians, family physicians, nurses, and trained community health workers.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"A 14-member multidisciplinary expert panel from different countries refined the PMSA-2025 using a three-round, hybrid modified Delphi approach conducted in September 2025" and "Content validity was assessed using the Item-level Content Validity Index (I-CVI), with a threshold of ≥0.80 for domain retention." This represents consensus-based refinement and validation of tool structure but lacks empirical evidence of clinical effectiveness or predictive validity in practice.
This is a tool development and consensus study with no empirical testing on actual populations. Content validity alone does not establish that the tool can predict outcomes or improve clinical decision-making. No comparison group or outcome measurement was conducted.
