The problem
Intervention: Immunization of infants with nirsevimab, a monoclonal antibody against RSV, implemented in France from September 2023
Who it was tested with: Children younger than 12 months hospitalized with bronchiolitis in 12 French hospitals during the 2023–24 and 2024–25 RSV seasons.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"We conducted a multicenter test-negative case-control study" - this design compares immunized status in RSV-positive cases and RSV-negative controls, so it has a comparison group but is not randomised.
The study is observational, so unmeasured confounding is possible. It covers only two seasons in France, and the authors say the lineage differences need confirmation through further surveillance.
