The problem
Intervention: Mother-infant dialectical therapy plus (MI-DBT+), which integrates mother-infant dialectical behavior therapy with attachment and biobehavioral catch-up (ABC) therapy.
Who it was tested with: Eight Australian mothers with borderline personality disorder who had completed the MI-DBT+ program..
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"eight mothers completed semi-structured interviews about their experiences of intervention following completion of the MI-DBT+ program" shows the design is a post-program qualitative account of experiences, with no measurement of effects, so the design is rated at the lowest tier and the direction cannot be judged.
The findings rest on a small group's own accounts, with no measured outcomes for mothers or infants and no comparison group. Longer-term developmental effects and sustainability were not assessed, and little demographic information was available.
