The problem
Intervention: Economic empowerment intervention
Who it was tested with: Adolescents and youths aged 18-24 years living with HIV in fishing communities of southwestern Uganda.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"This study comprises four components: (1) focus group discussions (FGDs) with adolescents and youths living with HIV (n=20) and in-depth qualitative interviews with health providers (n=10) from 2 randomly selected clinics; (2) a cross-sectional survey with 200 adolescents and youths living with HIV; (3) a randomized controlled trial with a subgroup of adolescents and youths living with HIV (n=100); and (4) 2 postintervention FGD with adolescents and youths living with HIV (n=10 per group)." The inclusion of a randomized controlled trial component with comparison groups constitutes an experimental design, though results are not yet available.
This is a protocol for a study in progress; no outcomes have yet been measured or reported. The main study findings are targeted for 2024.
