The problem
Intervention: Mindfulness app used before bed, compared to active control sleep melodies app
Who it was tested with: 12 children aged 7-12 years with autism spectrum disorder diagnosis.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"Twelve children aged 7 to 12 with an ASD diagnosis participated in a blinded two-week controlled trial testing the use of two apps before bed. Children were allocated to the experimental mindfulness app or the active sleep melodies control app via counterbalancing." This is a small experimental design with randomisation to comparison groups, making it EXPERIMENTAL tier, though limited by sample size and duration.
Very small sample size (n=12), short intervention duration (two weeks), and unclear longer-term sustainability of effects. Study does not measure anxiety outcomes as intended.
