The problem
Intervention: Portfolio assessment, an informal learner-centred approach, used to evaluate English language skills.
Who it was tested with: Pupils with hearing impairment in selected inclusive primary schools in Fako Division, South West Region, Cameroon..
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"The research utilised a quasi-experimental design involving pupils with hearing impairment in selected inclusive primary schools." A comparison group was used, which meets the experimental tier as defined.
Small sample (about 40 pupils by degrees of freedom), selected schools only, non-random assignment implied by the quasi-experimental design, and no follow-up reported. The difference in means is modest.
