The problem
Intervention: Digital health platform (MyPal4Kids) integrating electronic patient-reported outcomes with a serious game for children aged 6-17 and caregivers
Who it was tested with: 83 children and adolescents with cancer, their parents or legal guardians, and 10 health care professionals at 3 clinical sites in Germany and Czech Republic.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"A multicenter observational feasibility study was conducted between December 2020 and September 2022 at 3 clinical sites in Germany and the Czech Republic. A total of 83 children and adolescents with cancer, their parent or legal guardian, as well as 10 health care professionals (HCPs) participated. A mixed methods design was used, combining in-app data and surveys with qualitative insights from focus groups." The study measured feasibility and acceptability through participation rates and usability but did not compare outcomes against standard care, limiting conclusions about effectiveness.
Observational feasibility study with no control group; no measurement of clinical health outcomes or actual impact on doctor-patient communication; engagement decline suggests implementation challenges not fully addressed
