The problem
Intervention: Application of the Lundy model of child participation through consultation sessions with primary school learners, followed by feedback sessions
Who it was tested with: Grades 2–4 learners at GADRA Education, an NGO in Makhanda, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Eight child participation consultations were held, followed by a further eight feedback sessions 5 months later." This represents a pre-post approach with the same learners, but without a comparison group or control condition, making it practitioner-level evidence. The mixed outcome reflects that while the model was found useful, significant limitations were identified requiring further development.
Single-site implementation with no comparison group; limited to consultative participation only; no measurement of sustained behavioural change or institutional impact; no baseline data on existing participation levels
