The problem
Intervention: Community-based organization (CBO)-assisted enrollment pathway for non-English speakers in the Fresh Bucks program
Who it was tested with: Non-English speaking families enrolled in Fresh Bucks program in Seattle, WA.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"CBO-assisted enrollment (vs. public) predicted lower probability of discontinuation for non-English speakers (B = -7.3 percentage points, 95%CI = -10.5, -4.1)." The study found that when community-based organizations helped with enrollment, non-English speaking families were significantly more likely to stay engaged with the fruit and vegetable incentive program.
Study uses administrative data without detailed information on reasons for discontinuation or barriers faced. Cross-sectional comparison without random assignment or matching on baseline characteristics beyond those measured. Findings specific to one program in one location.
