The problem
Intervention: Longer and more consistent access to and use of microcredit
Who it was tested with: 4,624 children in rural Bangladesh households.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Our dataset comprises two rounds of the Bangladesh Integrated Household Survey (Round 2 in 2015 and Round 3 in 2018), forming a panel of 4,624 children. The results from a multinomial probit model indicate that access to credit reduces the future likelihood of working for both boys and girls in rural Bangladesh." The panel design tracks the same children over time to assess how credit access relates to subsequent child labour outcomes.
Observational study without randomised assignment to credit access; cannot establish causal direction or account for unobserved differences between households with and without credit access; limited to rural Bangladesh
