The problem
Intervention: Introduction of R21/Matrix-M malaria vaccine through routine immunization system in Gedarif and Blue Nile States
Who it was tested with: Children under five years old in Gedarif and Blue Nile States, Sudan; mothers or caregivers of eligible children.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"A cross-sectional mixed-methods study was conducted in Gedarif and Blue Nile States of Sudan. Quantitative data were collected through pre-tested, pre-coded, structured questionnaire from samples of mothers or caregivers of children under the age of five. Additionally, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with school teachers and in-depth interviews with key Informants (KIIs) were conducted." The design combines surveys with qualitative exploration of factors affecting vaccine uptake, creating a comprehensive description of the implementation context and barriers to the newly introduced vaccine.
No comparison group; no intervention was tested for effectiveness. The study identifies barriers but does not evaluate solutions.
