The problem
Intervention: Household adoption of mobile money services
Who it was tested with: Tanzanian households with school-age children, surveyed across multiple years.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"The study uses a difference-in-differences approach, and instrumental variables strategy to investigate the nexus between mobile money adoption and child labour and school enrolment in Tanzania." This quasi-experimental design with comparison groups across time and instrumental variables strengthens causal inference beyond simple correlation.
Study relies on observational data from a single country; causality inferred through econometric methods rather than experimental design; heterogenous effects suggest results may not be uniform across all populations
