The problem
Intervention: Examination under anesthesia with thorough vaginal exploration and removal of foreign body
Who it was tested with: One 7-year-old girl in Uganda.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"During examination under anesthesia, we were able to locate the cassava stick that had caused penetrating vagina injury and we were able to dislodge it." This case demonstrates successful diagnostic and therapeutic management of a missed penetrating genital injury, showing that careful examination under anesthesia can identify foreign bodies that standard imaging may miss.
Single case report with no follow-up outcomes, no comparison of diagnostic methods, and no information on long-term recovery or psychological impact.
