Intervention: In-class educational presentation on parenting and the benefits of breastfeeding delivered to high school students
Who it was tested with: 345 adolescents (182 girls, 163 boys, mean age 17.9 years) in high schools across 5 African countries.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"Pre- and post-intervention questionnaires were completed by 345 pupils... Analysis indicated the education session impacted pupils' perceptions of parenting and changed which aspects of breastfeeding they viewed as most and least interesting." The school-based intervention successfully changed adolescents' perceptions of breastfeeding immediately after instruction, demonstrating an impact on knowledge and attitudes as intended.
The study uses only pre-post design without a comparison group, making it difficult to isolate the effect of the intervention from other influences. The document does not specify the time interval between pre- and post-testing, whether there was attrition, or whether attitude changes persisted over time.
