The problem
Intervention: Grief workshops using the ATTEND mindfulness-based bereavement model for bereaved parents, combined with provider seminars on traumatic grief
Who it was tested with: Bereaved parents of children who died from cancer (30-36 parents across 3 cohorts); healthcare providers.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Grief workshops consisted of 2 English and 1 Spanish speaking cohort each with 10–12 bereaved parents. At the end of each group surveys showed that parents found that the group provided a safe community, a place to say their child's name, a place to share their story." The design involved workshop delivery with post-intervention surveys only, lacking baseline measurement or a comparison group, placing it at the practitioner evidence tier.
No quantitative outcome measures, no comparison group, no baseline or follow-up assessment of grief levels, no information on attrition or completeness of survey responses. The document reports only post-intervention qualitative feedback without demonstrating changes in grief symptoms or family well-being.
