The problem
Intervention: Standard post-acute follow-up care coordination and caregiver education
Who it was tested with: 47 children admitted to a level 1 pediatric trauma center and their caregivers, mostly with mild to moderate injuries.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"This was a prospective cohort study that followed 50 participants for 6 months and administered surveys to parents of children who are admitted to a pediatric level 1 trauma center for injury. Surveys were given bi-weekly regarding care children received after hospital discharge." The study documents current barriers and unmet needs without testing an intervention, revealing gaps in existing follow-up care systems.
Single-centre, small sample size; relies on parental perception rather than clinical assessment; no comparison group to determine if barriers or ongoing needs differ from standard practice
