The problem
Intervention: Cognitive Orientation to Daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) approach delivered across 10 weekly sessions, where children identify and practice three self-chosen occupational performance goals with coaching
Who it was tested with: Three female children aged 11-12 years with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"A mixed-methods descriptive case series explored nine feasibility domains... Pre- and post-intervention scores on the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM)... along with caregiver and child interviews, were analysed." This design measures the same children before and after intervention without a comparison group, which is a pre-post design suitable for preliminary feasibility testing but insufficient to establish efficacy.
Very small sample size (n=3 completers) with no comparison group; only three of nine feasibility domains fully evaluated; short intervention duration with no long-term follow-up; unable to isolate intervention effects from other factors; high attrition rate (only 3 of 5 screened completed post-measures).
