The problem
Intervention: Serological assessment of antibody levels against measles, pertussis, and tetanus using ELISA on dried blood spots from children and postpartum women
Who it was tested with: 205 children aged 12-23 months and 208 postpartum women in Boende Health Zone, Tshuapa province, DRC, selected through 30×7 cluster survey.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Antibodies against measles, pertussis, and tetanus were measured using ELISA on dried blood spots from postpartum women and children aged 12-23 months" in a cluster survey design. The serological approach provides objective measurement of immunity status beyond vaccination records, revealing substantial gaps in protective antibody levels that may reflect actual vaccine delivery or effectiveness failures in this setting.
This is a cross-sectional survey without a control group and cannot determine causation or distinguish between vaccine failure, lack of vaccination, antibody waning, and other factors. The lack of standardization for measles cut-offs limits precision of conclusions.
