The problem
Intervention: Health literacy learning activities co-designed with children in groups of 6-9 children and 2 researchers, then tested in school by the co-design group and their peers.
Who it was tested with: 66 primary school children (mean age 10.8, 62% girls) in 3 schools in the Netherlands: 24 in the co-design group and 42 peers in the test group..
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"children's HL was measured at T0, T1, T2 with HLS-Child-Q15-NL" shows a repeated before-and-after measurement of groups that both took part in the activity. Without an untreated comparison group, and with different starting scores, this is classed as the lower tier (pre-post).
Small sample and no randomised or untreated control group. The groups differed at baseline, and learning outcomes were self-assessed. The abstract does not report effect sizes or follow-up beyond T2.
