The problem
Intervention: Creation of a city-wide multidisciplinary task force developing protocols, training 160 healthcare professionals and 360 school professionals on FGM recognition, referral procedures, and integration into gender violence education
Who it was tested with: Healthcare professionals and school staff in Amadora, Portugal; girls and women affected by or at risk of FGM.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"This intervention will be evaluated after one year (summer of 2020) through mixed-methods to understand the impact on the practice of the professionals in Amadora. We will conduct interviews and apply questionnaires to capture the implementation of this city-wide protocol." The document presents an implementation plan with prospective evaluation design, making it pre-post with no comparison group, but actual results are not reported.
This is a protocol paper describing planned evaluation rather than completed evaluation. No outcome data are presented. The evaluation timeframe is only one year, which may be insufficient to assess impact on FGM prevention or health outcomes.
