The problem
Intervention: Participation in sports, with particular attention to moderate dosage
Who it was tested with: 1,000 adolescents from six provinces in China (Shandong, Henan, Jilin, Guangdong, Shaanxi, Liaoning).
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"A survey was conducted among 1,000 adolescents from Shandong, Henan, Jilin, Guangdong, Shaanxi, and Liaoning using scales measuring sports participation, social support, basic psychological needs, and subjective wellbeing." The study measured psychological constructs through self-report scales but did not randomly assign participants to sports participation, limiting causal claims.
Cross-sectional design prevents causal inference; data limited to six Chinese provinces; no information on type, frequency, or intensity of sports participation; no comparison with non-participating adolescents.
