The problem
Intervention: Optimizing family sports environment through parent-child engagement in physical activities and fostering regular physical activity habits
Who it was tested with: 750 Chinese adolescents (cluster sampling survey).
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"The family sports environment was significantly associated with healthier sports lifestyles among Chinese adolescents and more positive parent-child relationships, and was also indirectly associated with emotional regulation abilities through the sequential mediating effects of these two factors." This serial mediation design demonstrates how the intervention pathway operates, though the cross-sectional nature limits causal claims about intervention effectiveness.
Cross-sectional design prevents causal inference; self-report measures may introduce bias; sample representativeness unclear; single timepoint measurement cannot establish temporal sequencing of mediators
