Intervention: Co-designed perinatal awareness, recognition, assessment and support strategies for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents experiencing complex trauma, incorporating six essential elements: high-quality holistic care, cultural/social/emotional safety, empowerment/choice/control, flexible pers
Who it was tested with: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents in perinatal settings; study included 38 workshop participants from these communities.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"The Aboriginal‐led participatory Healing the Past by Nurturing the Future project aims to co‐design safe, accessible and feasible perinatal awareness, recognition, assessment and support strategies" and "thematic analysis" was used to identify essential elements. This is a community-participatory design study that identifies prerequisites for safe assessment rather than testing an implemented intervention, making it practitioner-level evidence based on community expertise and consultation.
This study presents community views on prerequisites for safe assessment but does not implement or test an actual assessment intervention; no outcome data on whether the identified elements actually prevent harm or improve parent/child wellbeing when implemented; no comparison of different approaches.
