The problem
Intervention: Playing video games during circumcision with local anesthesia
Who it was tested with: Children aged 6-12 years scheduled for circumcision with local anesthesia at a private pediatric surgery clinic (n=42).
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"This quasi-experimental pretest-posttest study aimed to determine the effect of video games played during circumcision on children's pain, anxiety, and physiological parameters." Assessments were conducted three times during the procedure to measure change over time, but without a comparison group to establish that the video games caused the observed improvements rather than other factors.
No comparison group without video game intervention, so cannot isolate the effect of the intervention from other procedural factors. Single-site study in a private clinic may limit generalizability. No follow-up data on longer-term outcomes.
