The problem
Intervention: Integration of six traditional games into elementary school learning program across six teaching sessions
Who it was tested with: 102 students across five elementary schools in Macedonia.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"The comparison of learning achievements between these learning sessions and standard classes revealed increased students' learning performance on comparable topics. To understand the reason for improvement, we have surveyed students after each session and tested the gathered data set via the development of a structural equation model that examines the relationships between student's personality traits, motivation and experience with learning outcomes." The design involved comparing traditional game-based learning to standard classes and using structural equation modeling to identify which factors explained the improved outcomes.
No details on whether comparison groups were matched or randomly assigned; timing of assessments and persistence of effects unclear; specific learning topics and duration not specified
