The problem
Intervention: Observational comparison of nutritional status in children aged 6-59 months born to mothers with versus without childhood severe acute malnutrition exposure
Who it was tested with: Children aged 6-59 months in the Lwiro cohort, Democratic Republic of Congo; 178 exposed and 124 unexposed children.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"This was an observational cohort study of children aged 6-59 mo drawn from the Lwiro cohort in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from March to May 2019. Exposure was defined as having a mother exposed to childhood SAM or not." The study compares nutritional outcomes between children with and without maternal childhood malnutrition exposure using anthropometric measurements and regression analysis.
Observational design without randomization; causality cannot be determined; unmeasured confounders may explain differences; no significant differences found for anemia and intestinal parasitosis
