The problem
Intervention: AquOTic: an occupational therapy-based water competency intervention delivered either by professional student swim buddies or community swim buddies
Who it was tested with: Children on the autism spectrum aged 5-9 years (planned n=108).
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"This type 1 hybrid effectiveness-implementation randomised controlled trial will evaluate AquOTic, an occupational therapy-based water competency intervention for children on the autism spectrum aged 5-9 years. A total of 108 participants will be randomised into three arms." The protocol describes a robust experimental design with randomisation and comparison groups, but no data on outcomes has been collected or reported yet.
This is a protocol document; no trial results are yet available. The design is strong (RCT with comparison groups) but effectiveness remains to be demonstrated.
