The problem
Intervention: Triple P Level 4 Group (social learning-based) and Circle of Security–Parenting (attachment-based), both delivered online through community agencies, compared with treatment-as-usual
Who it was tested with: 502 caregivers of children aged 2-6 years recruited through four community organizations in Ontario, Canada.
Children or communities are compared with a group that did not receive the intervention, or followed over years. This is the design that best separates what the intervention did from everything else that changed.
"A three-arm randomized controlled trial was conducted across four community organizations in Ontario, Canada." Random assignment to two programs and a treatment-as-usual comparison group makes this an experimental design, and the mix of short-term and limited sustained effects gives a mixed result.
Effects were mostly short-lived. Treatment-as-usual families also improved, and the exploratory analyses suggesting Triple P was better than COS-P were not the primary comparisons. Delivery was online, and the setting was limited to Ontario.
