The problem
Intervention: Strong Families Program: a 3-week evidence-informed family skills intervention with separate and joint sessions for caregivers and children to improve parenting and family dynamics
Who it was tested with: 68 families (caregivers and children paired 1:1) from Chiang Mai, Lamphun, and Chiang Rai provinces in northern Thailand.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"This prospective mixed methods pretest-posttest feasibility cohort study involved 68 families (caregivers and children as 1:1) from Chiang Mai, Lamphun, and Chiang Rai-3 provinces in northern Thailand. The applied intervention consisted of a 3-week program with both separate and joint sessions for caregivers and children." The study used validated scales measured before and after the intervention with no comparison group, making it a PRE_POST design that demonstrates feasibility and suggests effectiveness, though causal claims are limited by the absence of a control condition.
No comparison or control group limits causal inference. Response shift bias may explain some counterintuitive findings. Qualitative data from only 19 of 68 families. Short-term follow-up only; sustainability unknown.
