The problem
Intervention: Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) provision and utilization
Who it was tested with: 59,115 children aged 6-23 months from India, stratified by ICDS service utilization.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"Modified Poisson regression analysis was performed to evaluate the association between the utilization of ICDS services and complementary feeding practices, estimating the adjusted prevalence ratio (aPR)" using data from "59,115 children age 6-23 months from the National Family Health Survey 2019-21." This represents an observational comparison of complementary feeding outcomes between ICDS users and non-users within a nationally representative dataset.
The cross-sectional design cannot establish causation. The study cannot determine whether differences are due to ICDS services themselves or other factors associated with service utilization. Unmeasured confounding variables may explain the paradoxically lower meal frequency among ICDS beneficiaries.
