The problem
Intervention: Training program for PCPs consisting of an asynchronous online autism course, a 2-day in-person workshop on diagnostic assessment, and eight posttraining community learning sessions
Who it was tested with: 24 pediatric primary care practitioners in Portland, Oregon, and 34 children ages 19-47 months assessed by trained PCPs.
Experience from people who deliver programmes: stories, case studies and lessons learned. Valuable for understanding how and why, and for spotting what to test next, but not a measure of effect.
"From February to September 2024, PCPs in Portland, Oregon, were trained to conduct standardized autism assessments with young children, based on similar U.S.-based training models. This training consisted of an asynchronous online autism course sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics; a 2-day, in-person workshop on diagnostic assessment; and eight posttraining community learning sessions." The study uses a before-and-after measurement design to assess changes in PCP knowledge and efficacy following a structured training intervention.
No comparison group to determine relative effectiveness; limited to one geographic area; no follow-up data on whether children received appropriate services post-diagnosis; short study period (February-September 2024)
