The problem
Intervention: Analysis of multilevel factors influencing child marriage to inform policy and program development
Who it was tested with: Adolescent girls aged 15-17 and their parents in Burkina Faso and Tanzania.
The same group is measured before the intervention and again afterwards, with a baseline and an endline and sometimes a midline. Change is visible, but other causes cannot be ruled out.
"We conducted a secondary analysis of baseline data from the Building Evidence to Delay Child Marriage Project... we ran a series of nested logistic regression models to identify factors associated with having ever been married among girls aged 15-17 years." The study uses logistic regression on cross-sectional baseline data to identify associations between multiple levels of factors and child marriage outcomes.
Secondary analysis of baseline data cannot establish causation. Cross-sectional design prevents determination of temporal relationships. Analysis identifies associations, not causal mechanisms.
