Abstract
The 5th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour will be held in Durban, South Africa, on May 15–20, 2022, at which the immense task of getting back on track to achieve UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target 8.7, which includes the elimination of all forms of child labour by 2025, will be faced. As the International Labour Organization (ILO) and UNICEF observed, in the absence of social protection and resilient employment policies, the COVID-19 pandemic led to a substantial increase in child labour, undermining the progress made since the 2010s.
