Summary
Written by AI, not yet AICS's view · claude-haiku-4-5-20251001This study examined how immunisation programmes reduce infectious disease cases among children in urban East Jakarta using qualitative methods. Researchers interviewed health workers, parents, and community leaders, and observed activities at health centres. The immunisation programme was found to substantially reduce disease cases in children and increase community awareness about vaccination. However, challenges remain including unequal access to vaccines and resistance from some community groups.
Key points
- Immunisation programmes had a substantial impact on reducing infectious disease cases in children
- Public awareness about the importance of immunisation was enhanced through the programmes
- Disparities in access to vaccination exist within urban communities
- Resistance from specific community groups persists as a challenge
- Findings aim to help local governments optimise immunisation programmes in urban areas
Limitations
The study used qualitative methods with a case study approach in one urban location (East Jakarta), so findings may not generalise to other urban or rural settings. No quantitative data on disease reduction rates or vaccination coverage percentages are reported.
Abstract
The objective of this study is to ascertain the impact of immunisation programmes on the reduction of infectious disease cases in urban communities in East Jakarta. The research method employed was qualitative, with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with health workers, parents, and community leaders, as well as direct observation at several posyandu and community health centres. The results demonstrated that the immunisation programme has a substantial impact on the reduction of infectious disease cases, particularly in children, and the enhancement of public awareness regarding the significance of immunisation. Nevertheless, several challenges persist, including disparities in access to vaccination and the presence of resistance from specific community groups. The findings are anticipated to provide insights for local governments in optimising immunisation programmes in urban areas.
