Summary
Written by AI, not yet AICS's view · claude-haiku-4-5-20251001This study describes the development and validation of a measurement scale to assess parenting and care abilities in mothers with diabetes who have children aged 0-3 years. The scale was constructed using expert consultation and WHO nurturing care theory, with 26 items across five dimensions including early learning, security, health knowledge, responsive care, and attention. The scale was tested for reliability and validity using 150 diabetic mothers and 250 caregivers. Statistical testing showed the scale has good internal consistency and content validity.
Key points
- The scale contains 26 items organized into five dimensions based on WHO nurturing care framework
- Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.883 indicates strong internal consistency
- Content validity coefficient of 0.930 suggests high relevance of items
- The scale explained 63.377% of variance in nurturing ability
- Sample included 150 diabetic mothers and 250 caregivers of children aged 0-3 years
Limitations
This document describes the development of a measurement tool rather than evaluating outcomes for children. It does not report on actual child well-being impacts, effectiveness of interventions to improve maternal care, or longitudinal child outcomes.
Abstract
ObjectiveTo construct an evaluation scale for nurturing and nursing ability of diabetic mothers with filial generation aged 0⁃3 years old and to test its reliability and validity.MethodsBased on the World Health Organization(WHO) nurturing care theory, the initial item pool of the scale was prepared by comprehensive literature analysis, and the initial scale was formed by Delphi expert consultation and other methods.A total of 150 diabetic mothers and 250 caregivers of diabetic mothers' filial generation were enrolled to test the reliability and validity of the scale. The 9 experts who participated in the second round of consultation were selected to test the content validity.ResultsThe final evaluation scale for nurturing and nursing ability of diabetic mothers with filial generation aged 0⁃3 years old included 26 items in five dimensions(early learning opportunities;security;good knowledge of health, parent⁃child relationship, and disease;responsive care;and attention). The explained variation rate was 63.377%.The scale's overall Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.883,the split⁃half reliability was 0.712,and the content validity was 0.930.ConclusionsThe evaluation scale for parenting and nursing ability of diabetic mothers with filial generation aged 0⁃3 years old constructed in this study has good reliability and validity, suitable for evaluating the nurturing and nursing ability of diabetic mothers with filial generation aged 0⁃3 years old.
