Summary
Written by AI, not yet AICS's view · claude-sonnet-5-5The paper describes an Internet of Things (IoT) system built for the Bougenvelle Posyandu (community health post) in Indonesia to monitor toddlers at risk of stunting. The Posyandu's "Zero New Stunting" program had problems with late data recording and no standard guidance on nutritional intake. The system uses height and weight sensors linked to a microcontroller and a web platform that stores growth history. It calculates Z-scores to classify nutritional status and sends protein intake recommendations by WhatsApp. The authors report that the system improves data accuracy and makes monitoring easier for health workers and parents.
Key points
- The Posyandu program faced delayed data recording and a lack of standard nutritional intake guidelines.
- Hardware uses a VL53L1X height sensor and a load cell with an HX711 module for weight, connected to an ESP8266 microcontroller.
- A web platform stores and displays children's growth history.
- The system calculates Z-scores to classify nutritional status and sends protein intake recommendations via WhatsApp.
- The prototype method was used so the system could be adjusted step by step based on user feedback.
Limitations
The abstract gives no figures on accuracy, no comparison group and no measured effect on children's growth or stunting rates. The claim of improved data accuracy and easier monitoring cannot be checked from the abstract alone.
Abstract
ABSTRACT Stunting is a condition of growth failure in toddlers caused by chronic malnutrition, which affects children's physical and cognitive development. In Posyandu Bougenvelle, the “Zero New Stunting” program faces challenges such as delayed data recording and lack of standardized nutritional intake guidelines. This research designs an Internet of Things (IoT)-based system for monitoring and recommending nutritional intake for toddlers at risk of stunting. The system consists of hardware using height (VL53L1X) and weight (Load Cell and Modul HX711) sensors integrated with an ESP8266 microcontroller, as well as a web-based platform to store and display growth history data. The system also calculates Z-scores to classify nutritional status and sends daily protein intake recommendations via WhatsApp. The prototype development method was used to allow iterative adjustments based on user feedback. Implementation results indicate the system improves data accuracy and facilitates growth monitoring and evaluation by healthcare workers and parents.
