Summary
Written by AI, not yet AICS's view · claude-haiku-4-5-20251001This study developed nutritional gummies containing safed musli, a traditional medicinal herb, to address stunting in children from low-income families in Pakistan. The researchers tested different concentrations of safed musli powder in the gummies and conducted nutritional analysis. The proximate analysis showed that the gummies were high in nutritional content and could potentially help improve the nutritional status of stunted children.
Key points
- Safed musli (Chlorophytum borivilianum) is a traditional herb with nutritional and medicinal properties including antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor effects
- Safed musli powder was incorporated into gummies at five different concentrations ranging from 5 to 30 grams
- Proximate analysis revealed that safed musli gummies were high in nutrition content
- The gummies were identified as a good source of nutrition for stunted growth children
- The study targeted stunted children from low-income families
Limitations
The document reports only proximate nutritional analysis and sensory evaluation of the gummies; it does not present results from feeding trials or efficacy testing with actual stunted children. No information is provided about acceptance rates, compliance, or whether consuming these gummies actually improved children's nutritional status or reduced stunting.
Abstract
Chlorophytum borivilianum, often known as 'Safed Musli,' is a rare traditional medicinal herb with nutritional, medicinal, and therapeutic properties.Safed Musli is well-known for its excellent nutritional content. It is used to treat physical illness and weakness, as an aphrodisiac and revitalizer, as a general sex tonic, as a cure for diabetes, arthritis, and increasing body immunity, as a cure for natal and postnatal problems, for rheumatism and joint pains, to increase lactation in nursing mothers, as an antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor agent, and it is also used to treat diarrhea, dysentery. The current study was designed to evaluate the nutritional benefit of safed musli gummies, specifically for stunted children from low-income families. The proximate study also lends support to the creation of safed musli gummies to improve children's nutritional status. The data was subjected to statistical analysis.Data reveled that safed musli gummies were high in nutrition content. The proximate analysis also supports the development of safed musli gummies due to its nutritional benefits. The safed musli powder was incorporated in gummies by using different concentrations (T1=5, T2=10, T3=15, T4=20, T4=25, T5=30 g).According to the results, safed musli powder are a good source of nutrition for stunted growth children and this could be a vital approach for combating malnourished children.
