Summary
Written by AI, not yet AICS's view · claude-haiku-4-5-20251001Indonesia has high rates of child stunting, particularly in remote island areas like Selayar Islands Regency where rates reach 21.5% to 36.4%. Researchers developed NutriTrack, a mobile and web application designed to monitor child nutrition and prevent stunting through community participation by parents, caretakers, and health workers. The app was tested with 34 participants at health centers and received an average usability score of 72.4, indicating good acceptance. The application can track child growth in real-time using WHO standards, improve communication between parents and health workers, and provide nutrition education.
Key points
- Stunting rates in Selayar Islands Regency range between 21.5% and 36.4%
- NutriTrack application achieved an average System Usability Scale (SUS) score of 72.4, indicating high user acceptability
- The app tracks child growth in real-time compliant with WHO standards
- The application enables communication between parents and health workers through chat functionality
- Digital literacy limitations among parents indicate need for simpler designs and offline usability features
Limitations
The study involved only 34 participants in field tests at health centers and does not report whether the application actually reduced stunting rates or improved child nutrition outcomes over time. The document describes usability testing and acceptability but lacks evidence of impact on the defined problem of stunting prevention.
Abstract
Nevertheless, Indonesia faces the problem of stunting in its remote archipelagic areas such as Selayar Islands Regency, which have stunting rates ranging between 21.5% and 36.4%. In this regard, this study highlights the design and evaluation of NutriTrack, a user-oriented mobile and web-based application that helps in monitoring the nutrition of children and prevents stunting using community participation. Using the Research and Development (R&D) model along with Design Thinking approach, this application has been developed through the collaboration of parents, caretakers, and health workers. In field tests conducted at Selayar health centers, this application involved 34 participants, including 14 health care workers and 20 parents. As per the results, this application is highly acceptable by users, who have given it an average SUS score of 72.4. This application can track the growth of children in real-time in compliance with the standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO), improves communication between parents and health workers using chat, and provides education on nutrition. Problems associated with the lack of digital literacy of the parents show the requirement of simpler designs and offline usability.
