Summary
Written by AI, not yet AICS's view · claude-haiku-4-5-20251001This is a protocol for five parallel scoping reviews that aim to map and characterize indicators and measurement tools used to assess child and adolescent vulnerability. The reviews recognize that vulnerability is multidimensional and affects children across health, nutrition, protection, learning and family domains. The work will synthesize evidence from scientific studies and technical documents to support the development of a municipal vulnerability index. The scope includes children aged 0 to 19 years and will search multiple databases using standardized methodology.
Key points
- Child and adolescent vulnerability is multidimensional, cumulative and territorially mediated
- Children experience risks through interacting conditions across health, nutrition, caregiving, protection, learning and family environments
- The reviews will map indicators, proxies, scales, composite indices and operational variables used to measure vulnerability
- Five parallel scoping reviews will be conducted following JBI methodology and PRISMA-ScR reporting standards
- Search will cover multidisciplinary, health, education, psychology and regional databases plus grey literature
Limitations
This is a protocol document, not a completed review, so it describes intended methods rather than actual findings. The document does not report which specific indicators or measurement tools are most effective for identifying vulnerable children.
Abstract
Objective: To map, characterize and translate indicators, proxies, scales, composite indices and operational variables used to measure child and adolescent vulnerability into an evidence-informed basis for constructing a municipal vulnerability index. Introduction: Child and adolescent vulnerability is multidimensional, cumulative and territorially mediated. Although public services are organized by sectors, children experience risks and deprivations through interacting conditions related to health, nutrition, caregiving, protection, learning, family environments and local institutional capacities. Inclusion criteria: The reviews will consider evidence concerning children and adolescents aged 0 to 19 years, caregivers, households, schools, services or territories, when sources report indicators or measurement strategies related to vulnerability, deprivation, development, nurturing care or child protection. Scientific studies and selected technical documents will be eligible; editorials, comments and sources without minimum methodological or institutional credibility will be excluded. Methods: Five parallel scoping reviews will be conducted in accordance with JBI methodology and reported using PRISMA-ScR. Search will be conducted in multidisciplinary, health, education, psychology and regional databases, with grey literature addressed through a supplementary operational plan.
