Summary
Written by AI, not yet AICS's view · claude-haiku-4-5-20251001This systematic review examined factors associated with early childhood development by analyzing 15 peer-reviewed articles published between 2017 and 2022. The study identified three main categories of factors: maternal factors (age, education, income, antenatal care, nutrition, and breastfeeding), child factors (birth weight, prematurity, breastfeeding duration, and temperament), and environmental factors (nurturing care, storytelling, play, and screen time). The findings show that early childhood development is influenced by a complex combination of factors across maternal health, child characteristics, and the home environment.
Key points
- Maternal age, educational level, family income, and antenatal care are associated with child development outcomes
- Iron and iodine supplementation during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and maternal health conditions influence early childhood development
- Birth weight, prematurity, breastfeeding duration, and child temperament are key child-level factors
- Environmental factors including nurturing care, storytelling, play activities, and limited screen time support development
- Parental concerns about child development and caregiver engagement with child health materials are associated with outcomes
Limitations
This systematic review identifies associations but does not establish causation. The review does not evaluate the strength of evidence, quality differences between studies, or provide meta-analysis, so it cannot indicate which factors have the strongest impact on development or how interventions might effectively target these factors.
Abstract
Introduction: The delay of child development is one of the major public health problems, which is related to various factors. Study method: a systematic review to study factors associated with early childhood development.
